Business Improvement Districts (BIDS): A BID is a program that is designed to finance improvements in a geographically defined area in order to restore or promote business activity. Business Improvement Districts are public/private partnerships in which business and commercial property owners agree to share the cost of maintenance, development and revitalization in their commercial area. According to the NYC Department of Small Business Services, the implementation of Business Improvement Districts has been tied to improved appearance of communities, customer patronage and decreased vacancy rates. The formation of a BID takes three phases: planning, outreach, and legislative authorization. Please read our BID guide for more information: [link to 5 page teaser]
Downtown Revitalization: Renewal of downtown areas help to create a safe, attractive, and promising space for small businesses to expand and for consumers to shop. Community and public officials coordinate can create spaces for business growth, job creation and community development.
Banking Development Districts (BDDs): The establishment of a new branch by a bank, trust company or national bank within such a Banking Development District should enhance access by consumers to banking services and promote local economic development. It is anticipated that greater access to banking services will encourage the area's residents, who may have no banking relationships, to become part of the financial mainstream. It is further anticipated that that establishment of a bank branch will provide a foundation to stimulate the local economy by enhancing access to capital for local businesses.
Planning Development Districts (PDDs): The purpose a Planning Development District is to integrate various land uses with close proximity to each other and offers a greater variety in type, design, and layout of commercial and residential usage.
