The Division of Signage installs and maintains all of the Town owned traffic signs and pavement markings on the 2,000 miles of roadways throughout Brookhaven.
Each year the Division of Signage spends more than $100,000 to purchase and/or fabricate traffic signs. There are currently more than 17,000 STOP signs in the Town and a good portion of these signs are replaced each year due to damage, vandalism and normal wear and tear. New signs, including STOP signs, speed limit signs and truck exclusion signs are also installed when traffic studies indicate the need for additional controls in particular areas.
The Division of Signage also maintains and installs pavement markings when roads are repaved or when markings become faded or damaged. These markings include double yellow centerlines, white edge lines, stop bars, school crossings and railroad crossings.
