Residents 60 years of age and older who are no longer able to perform the day to day tasks of managing a home may be eligible for limited Home Care Services. EISEP services range from assistance with paperwork, grocery shopping, errands, help with laundry, meal preparation and light housekeeping, to aid with bathing and grooming.
How to apply:
Call the Suffolk County Office for the Aging at 853-8200
There is a waiting list.
How it works:
Caseworkers from the Suffolk County Office for the Aging determine need, eligibility and fees, which are based on a sliding scale.
Once a case is opened, the Town’s Senior Citizen Division administers the housekeeper services. Personal care is provided through other agencies assigned by the County.
Housekeeper visits are typically 3 hours, once per week, and may include:
- Grocery Shopping
- Errands (pharmacy, post office, bank, library)
- Meal Preparation
- Laundry
- Light Housekeeping
Shopping and errands are limited to stores closest to client’s home.
Aides do not clean the entire home, only the primary area of use. The service does not include heavy cleaning, moving furniture, turning mattresses, washing walls or windows, scrubbing or waxing floors, shampooing carpets, yard work, or cleaning up pet accidents. Aides are not permitted to transport clients and do not provide any hands-on care.
Tipping:
Under no circumstances are Aides allowed to accept tips, so please do not offer them.
Funding for Residential Repair and EISEP is provided by the United States Department of Health and Human Services through the New York State Office for the Aging and the Suffolk County Office for the Aging.
