Personal Enrichment

The Town offers a host of opportunities for personal enrichment, including activities like trips, workshops, book discussion, card playing and Mah Jongg groups; classes for exercise, yoga, dancing, bridge, and Introduction to the Internet, as well as more than 40 Senior Citizen clubs.

CLASSES

SENIOR CITIZEN CLUBS
Residents and taxpayers of the Town, age 60 years and older, are welcome to join one of over 40 Senior Citizen Clubs that meet at various locations throughout the Town. Clubs provide social interaction through activities, luncheons, special events and trips.

Locations:
Clubs are located in Bellport, Blue Point, Centereach, Center Moriches, Coram, Farmingville, Lake Grove, Lake Ronkonkoma, Manorville, Mastic, Mastic Beach, Medford, Middle Island, Miller Place, Mt. Sinai, East Patchogue, Patchogue, North Patchogue, Ridge, Rocky Point, Selden, Shirley, Sound Beach, Stony Brook, and Yaphank.

At most clubs, members bring a brown bag lunch and arrive between 10 and 11 a.m. The business meeting begins at 11 a.m., and is followed by lunch and social activities. A few clubs have different hours. Each club plans its own activities and entertainment, and programs vary according to the makeup of the club membership.

How to Join:
There is no charge to join a club. Interested seniors are welcome to try as many clubs as desired, but may only belong to one club at a time. Once a resident attends a club for 3 meetings, she/he must become a member to continue attending that club. Proof of residency and age are required. To join, call: 631-451-9140.

This beautiful center opened in 2008 as the Town’s first dedicated Senior Citizen Center. Located at the junction of Route 25A and Patchogue-Mt. Sinai Road (Rte. 83), it is the setting for a wide array of multi-generational activities. Currently, in addition to a full schedule of events, activities and classes for seniors of all ages, including introductory Internet classes, the center hosts the Town’s Nutrition Program, Adult Day Services, and 2 Senior Citizen clubs. Evenings, the center is the venue for a variety of events for Town residents.

Cost:
There is no charge to visit the Center and residents are welcome to drop in any time it is open. The Nutrition Program is open 3 days a week to residents age 60 and older, for a modest voluntary donation. Many of the events and activities are free or have minimal fees.
