In June of 2009, Supervisor Mark Lesko established the Town of Brookhaven's Quality of Life Task Force to aggressively enforce the Town codes and crack down on serial offenders and property owners who violate the law with a disregard for the health and safety of our residents.
Between 2008 and 2010 fines levied on code enforcement violations have increased by 255%.
From the outset, the Quality of Life Task Force earned a reputation for success through a heightened level of investigation, enforcement and prosecution. Their actions have resulted in closing down numerous illegal multi-family dwellings, securing and boarding abandoned properties, hauling tons of garbage and debris out of yards and homes, and putting absentee landlords out of business.
The Task Force has also been successful in identifying, condemning, and cleaning up properties that have been used for drug and other serious crime-related activities.
Today, the Quality of Life Task Force continues to work closely with all levels of law enforcement, making a positive impact on neighborhoods throughout the Town of Brookhaven. If residents believe that a property is in violation of any Town of Brookhaven codes, they can call 451-TOWN to file a complaint.
