Information Technology
The mission of the Division of Information Technology is to efficiently and effectively provide information services and support to best meet the diverse needs of the various departments within the Town. The divisions primary function is two-fold:

To establish and maintain applications which enable information to be captured, stored, manipulated and retrieved in a cost effective manner.

To install, upgrade and maintain the systems these applications reside on.
In the Town of Brookhaven, the Information Technology Division's technical staff provides support for a mainframe, a mid-range system and a number or servers. The mainframe and mid-range systems can be simultaneously accessed both locally (at the One Independence Hill, Farmingville, NY 11738) and remotely (at the Office of the Office of the Town Clerk, the Department of Highways, etc.) In addition, there are seven remote gas pumping sites and a landfill site from which data is extracted on a scheduled basis.
Some of the related responsibilities include the following:

maintaining the operating systems and other system software

establish data files/dictionaries/libraries

creating and modifying the various applications

establishing and maintaining security

providing user training for standard pc software and in-house developed applications

preparing system and application documentation
