
Jon Schneider
Deputy Supervisor
A native Long Islander, Jon Schneider brings years of policy and communications experience on Long Island and Capitol Hill.
Prior to coming to Brookhaven, Jon worked in Washington, DC and Long Island for Congressman Tim Bishop, spending the last three years as District Director. Jon was Congressman Bishop's chief advisor on environmental issues, including helping write legislation to keep contaminated dredge spoil out of the Long Island Sound, helping write legislation to protect the safety of our groundwater and working to oppose the Broadwater Energy proposal to put a Liquid Natural Gas factory in the middle of the Long Island Sound. In Congressman Bishop's office, Jon worked closely with local community and civic groups on their priorities, including securing federal involvement to protect the Forge River in Mastic.
Jon previously worked for the Sierra Club, an environmental organization, where he helped train environmental advocates to make a difference in their communities as well as working on Capitol Hill as Press Secretary to Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ).
Jon earned a BS from Boston University. He resides in Port Jefferson
Station with his wife Mary Ellen and their daughter.
