 Biography
Mark Lesko, reform-minded Brookhaven Town Supervisor, was elected to office in March 2009, November 2009, and November 2011. Before he served as Supervisor, Lesko was a federal prosecutor for the U.S. Department of Justice for ten years, leading all federal investigations and prosecutions on Long Island. Supervisor Lesko brought his prosecutorial experience and no-nonsense approach to the Town of Brookhaven, where he has made it a priority to strengthen government operations through new policies and reforms and run government more like a business. As Brookhaven Town Supervisor, Lesko has froze taxes for three straight years and cut spending by over 26%. Independent bond rating agencies have affirmed the Town's credit rating eight times since 2009. Supervisor Lesko has also developed several forward-thinking programs to stimulate economic development and create jobs, including the Blight to Light program, which provides incentives for the redevelopment of eyesore properties. He is also partnering with the Town of Islip to redevelop the Ronkonkoma Hub Transit-Oriented Development into a live-work-play destination. Lesko introduced the Accelerate Long Island program to create high-tech start-up companies from research conducted at Long Island institutions.
