Farmingville, NY – Supervisor Mark Lesko and Councilwoman Connie Kepert announced that the 31st Annual Brookhaven Country Fair will be held on September 10 and September 11 at the historic Longwood Estate, located on Longwood Road and Smith Road in Ridge. The fair, which is sponsored by the Town of Brookhaven, will run from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day and feature fun activities and entertainment for the entire family, including traditional crafts, primitive cooking, Irish step dancing, Revolutionary War and Civil War re-enactments, pony rides, live music and more. Admission to the fair is $2 for adults and children under 12 are free. Parking is free and there will be a free shuttle to the fair from the parking area.
“The Brookhaven Country Fair is a great tradition that our residents have enjoyed for many years,” said Supervisor Lesko. “The rich history and beautiful grounds of Longwood Estate make it the perfect setting for a fun day out with friends and family and I look forward to it every year.”
Councilwoman Constance Kepert said, “The Longwood Fair is a great family and community event, one that I sold funnel cakes for the Middle Island Civic Association. Bring the family and support your favorite community organization, enjoy the crafts, music and re-enactments.”
The history of Longwood Estate, which was originally the home of William and Eleanor Smith, dates back to the 1790’s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Mr. Smith was Brookhaven Town Supervisor from 1829 to 1834 and also served for a time as Suffolk County Treasurer and a member of the New York State Legislature. The home was passed down through the Smith family over many generations, and in 1973 the manor house and 35 acres of land was donated to the Town of Brookhaven by developers who had purchased the property.
