Councilwoman Jane Bonner Selected as Village Beacon Record Newspaper’s “Woman of the Year in Government”
January 8, 2013

Farmingville, NY – Councilwoman Jane Bonner, a resident of Rocky Point, has been selected as the Village Beacon Record Newspaper’s “Woman of the Year in Government.” The announcement was made in the December 27 issue of the North Shore newspaper. The Village Beacon Record selected Councilwoman Bonner for this honor after she was nominated by a number of civic, business and community leaders who met at a breakfast event in late 2012.

In making the announcement about Councilwoman Bonner’s selection, the paper said, “Since being elected to represent the Town of Brookhaven’s 2nd Council District in 2007, Bonner (C-Rocky Point) has made her constituent’s concerns her own and has strived to solve issues in the area.” They continued by applauding her work to revitalize Rocky Point and the development of the Route 25A Corridor Study, saying “both of which aim to improve downtown areas in hamlets while preserving small business and open space.” Her efforts to restore the Mount Sinai Harbor Marine Environmental Stewardship Center were also cited.

“It’s a great honor to be selected as the Woman of the Year in Government by people who I respect and admire for their own service to the community,” said Councilwoman Bonner, “As an elected official, satisfaction comes when you get the opportunity to help your neighbors and make the community a better place to live. Being recognized in this way shows that all the hard work and hours spent are appreciated and I thank all those who nominated me for this very special honor.”

Supervisor Ed Romaine said, “Jane is knowledgeable, dedicated public official who does a great job on behalf of her constituents.”

“Jane Bonner is an extremely civic minded individual and has been a fantastic representative for her district,” commented Brookhaven Town Councilman Dan Panico, “I congratulate her on this achievement and on the many achievements of her tenure in government.”

"I could not think of a better recipient than Jane Bonner to receive this award. In choosing Jane they have chosen a tireless and dedicated elected official who does a great job representing all of her constituents. I congratulate her and wish her continued success,” said Councilman Tim Mazzei. Councilwoman Kathleen Walsh said, "Congratulations to Councilwoman Bonner for receiving this award and being recognized for her work in government.”

"I congratulate Councilwoman Bonner for the great honor of being selected as "Woman of the Year" from the Village Beacon Record. Jane's hard work on the 25A Corridor Study will insure that the communities which surround 25A will grow and develop in a sustainable way," stated Councilwoman Connie Kepert.

Councilman Steve Fiore-Rosenfeld said, “Jane Bonner deserves to be Village Beacon Record’s ‘Woman of the Year for 2012’ for her deep and long-standing commitment to the environment.”

Councilwoman Bonner, who represents Town Council District 2 was first elected to the Town Board in 2007 and re-elected in 2009 and 2011. She has also served as president of the Rocky Point Civic Association, president of the Rocky Point Revitalization and Beautification Committee, Trustee on the Rocky Point Board of Education, a board member of the North Shore Property Owner’s Association and a member of the Rocky Point PTA. In 2003, she was selected as the Village Beacon Record’s Woman of the Year in Civics.
