Farmingville, NY – Councilwoman Kathleen Walsh has announced that she has been notified by Suffolk County that an informational meeting for the public will take place on January 14 (snow date January 22) between the hours of 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm focusing on proposed safety and capacity improvements at the intersections of County Route 97, Nicolls Road and Hammond Road, Hawkins Road/Wireless Road, and Mark Tree Road in Centereach. The meeting will be held at Suffolk Community College’s Babylon Student Center in the Ammerman Campus, located at 533 College Road in Selden.
Councilwoman Walsh said, “I strongly suggest that our residents attend this informational meeting to hear about the County’s plans for what can be considered one of the major roads in the Town of Brookhaven. As it is now, Nicolls Road features various conditions which may be considered unsafe and cause unnecessary traffic. I look forward to working with the County to make this roadway safer and easier to navigate for our residents.”
The proposed improvements of the project (Suffolk County Capital Project 5512) include the reconfiguration of Hawkins Road at Nicolls Road to restrict the eastbound through and left turn movements, the addition of a second southbound left turn lane on Nicolls Road, and additional turning lanes on Hammond Road, Wireless Road, and Mark Tree Road to accommodate the rerouted traffic from the restrictions on Hawkins and decrease delays.
