Supervisor-Elect Brian X. Foley Announces Selection of Robert Quinlan as Town Attorney
Will Foster Culture of Competence to Serve Mission of Open, Honest, Responsive Government
Hauppauge, NY - December 20, 2005 - Brookhaven’s Supervisor-Elect Brian X. Foley announced the selection of Robert F. Quinlan as Town Attorney, to lead the Law Department and instill a culture of competence and the most responsible standards of ethical conduct in Brookhaven government.
Robert Quinlan brings over thirty years of legal experience to the position of Town Attorney. Throughout his career, Quinlan has brought dedication and passion to serving the public, having served as Chair of the Bar Association’s Legal Aid Committee, member of the Bar’s Pro Bono Foundation since 1985, and seventeen years as a director of Nassau‑Suffolk Law Services.
Quinlan, who currently serves as President of a Bar Association consisting of over 3,200 lawyers, over 50 foundations and committees, an Academy of Law and a full time staff of 10, will bring leadership and competence to the Brookhaven Law Department. As Administrator of the Assigned Counsel Defender Plan of Suffolk County since 1983, Quinlan presently manages the relationship of over 340 attorneys with the courts and their clients. He has been a partner in Long, Tuminello, Besso, Seligman, Quinlan and Werner, LLP since 1982.
In addition to his leadership and administrative skills, Quinlan brings exceptional legal talent to Brookhaven, having received the highest recognition that his peers can give him by Martindale-Hubbell, a national ratings service for lawyers.
Quinlan will be tasked with professionalizing the Town Attorney’s Office, reviewing litigation facing the town, and focusing on instituting a strong culture of ethics in Brookhaven government.
Quinlan is a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute and the Villanova School of Law. He served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve.
