Town Hires Disability/Mobility Specialist Cliff Hymowitz

AUGUST 7, 2006, FARMINGVILLE, NY – In an attempt to further open Town government to all residents of Brookhaven, Supervisor Brian X. Foley has hired Cliff Hymowitz, long-time advocate for the disabled, as the Town’s new Disability/Mobility Specialist. 

Mr. Hymowitz will function as an ombudsman for the disabled community in Brookhaven in the position, part of the Office of Housing, Community Development, and Intergovernmental Relations.

“I am excited that Cliff Hymowitz is joining our team,” said Supervisor Foley.  “He brings with him a great deal of expertise in the area of disability advocacy.  Cliff is a great asset for our Town and all of its residents.  I look forward to hearing his ideas on making Town government more open and accessible to our disabled residents.”

Mr. Hymowitz brings to the Town many years of experience in advocating for the rights of the disabled.  He is the director of Long Island Concerned Citizens for Public Transportation and serves on numerous advisory boards including three New York State Department of Transportation Region #1 advisory boards, the Suffolk County Transportation Advisory Board, and the Suffolk County Disabilities Advisory Board, as chairperson.

Mr. Hymowitz has also been recognized for his advocacy in recent years by Newsday and News 12.
