Basketball Challenge.
Farmingville, NY – Brookhaven Town Councilman Dan Panico, and his teammates NYS Senator Lee Zeldin, Chief of Staff Brian Beedenbender, Party 105.3 radio personality DJ Vic Latino, and Council District intern Armand Magardician, took to the courts on Friday, July 27th for the 2nd Annual Basketball Challenge against local youth and youth bureau staff.
The Town of Brookhaven Youth Bureau administers the Mastic Shirley Youth Program, sponsored partially by Councilman Panico. It is held at the Town of Brookhaven Mastic Athletic Complex across from the William Floyd HS, Wednesdays to Friday Nights, 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and is a designated alcohol and drug free zone for youth ages 13-18 years old.
Five games were played against 15 local youths who will receive complimentary passes to a Long Island Ducks game, gift cards for Subway and one lucky recipient will receive box seats to a NY Mets game, donated by JVC media.
“I look forward to this Basketball Challenge because it gives the kids in the community the opportunity to see their elected officials out of their suits and in their community,” commented Brookhaven Town Councilman Dan Panico. “This was once again a wonderful event and I want to thank everyone involved in making this a success including my teammates, town staff, the Suffolk County Police Department, Brookhaven Town Public Safety, and JVC Broadcasting.”
"It was great to team up with Councilman Dan Panico, Brookhaven Town Chief of Staff Brian Beedenbender and Vic Latino from Party 105.3 to play basketball against some great William Floyd community teens," said State Senator Lee Zeldin (R-C-I, Shirley). "It is important that we encourage our youth to participate in sports and other positive activities around our community. I commend Councilman Panico and the Brookhaven Town Youth Bureau for their efforts in putting this event together and I look forward to participating in this program again next year."
