Foley, Bissonette Urge Residents to Adopt Pets

Town Adoption Center Plans ‘Home for the Holidays’

OCTOBER 17, 2006, FARMINGVILLE, NY- Beginning November 6, 2006 and continuing through January 2, 2007, the Brookhaven Animal Shelter & Adoption Center will hold its annual Home for the Holidays adoption campaign. The program is designed to increase awareness of homeless pets available for adoption at the shelter.

A “Tree of Hope” stands outside the shelter.  After each animal goes home, a bulb will be lit.  The adoption center will also expand hours of operation. Hours for the center are 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and noon to 3:30 p.m. on Sundays, November 26, and December 3, 10, 17 only.

“This is a great opportunity for our residents to adopt a homeless pet,” said Brookhaven Town Supervisor Brian X. Foley. “I urge residents who can provide a loving home for a pet to bring home a pet for the holidays.”

"No matter what the time of year, adoption of a pet in need of a loving home accomplishes so much,” said Councilwoman Carol Bissonette. “It brings the gift of love and home, expands the meaning of family and ensures that every day, no matter what happens, you will be greeted with thanks and a never-ending source of entertainment and love. A simple pleasure that is rewarded over and over again."

If you are unable to adopt a pet at this time, you can help a homeless pet heal by contributing to our Help the Animals Fund. Visit the center’s website Animal Shelter .

The Brookhaven Animal Shelter & Adoption Center is located at 300 Horseblock Road in Brookhaven, and the telephone number is (631) 286-4940.
