Kepert Rushes to Save Gordon Heights Football Season

Councilwoman Tosses Winning Touchdown in Final Seconds

DECEMBER 14, 2006, FARMINGVILLE, NY – It was fourth and goal with no timeouts for the Gordon Heights Sports Coach & Parent Assoc. program and the game appeared to be out of reach, until Councilwoman Connie Kepert took the field.

“My office was contacted by a representative of this sports program after working hours on Wednesday, December 13 in an obvious panic,” said Councilwoman Kepert. “We needed to resolve this quickly in order to have the resolution ready to go for the Thursday work session and we only had a few hours to do this.”

The necessary paperwork for a $6,074 grant from the town’s Community Development Department, which would cover the fees for the indoor football season, was never submitted to the town. Councilwoman Kepert needed to act quickly in order have the resolution authorizing the funding on the agenda for the December 14 work session.

“The money was available and waiting but it could have been lost,” said Councilwoman Kepert. “We will be sure that these children are not put in this position again where they could have lost an entire season. The Gordon Heights sports program has assured me that they will have all necessary paperwork submitted to the town in a timely manner in the future.”

Councilwoman Kepert instructed her staff to get to work on resolving this situation Thursday morning. Working with John Kelly and Val Biscardi from the office of Community Development, the situation was resolved approximately one hour before the scheduled work session.
