Women’s Services Offers Help Meeting Challenges
APRIL 3, 2007, FARMINGVILLE, NY—According to Brookhaven Town Supervisor Brian X. Foley, working women face challenges unlike those faced by the generations that came before. Recognizing those challenges and offering strategies with which to deal with them is the thrust of an upcoming all-day conference sponsored by the Town of Brookhaven’s Office of Women’s Services.
Entitled, “Inspiring Women in the Workplace: Moving Beyond the Challenges,” the event is scheduled for Saturday, May 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Brookhaven Town Hall in Farmingville. Supervisor Foley invited women from across the region to participate.
“This conference is designed to assist women as they navigate the work place,” Supervisor Foley said, “and to suggest solutions to the obstacles they may encounter. Our Office of Women’s Services is committed to assisting women and their families to strive for success in various aspects of their lives. This is part of our ongoing effort to address economic issues they face. No matter where you are in your career, there is valuable information in these sessions that can help you achieve your goals.”
Workshop topics include:
- Dealing with Difficult People at Work and at Home
- Time Management
- The Do’s and Don’ts of the Workplace Child Care
- Using Humor to Deal with Stress
- Job Hunting for the Mature Worker
The presenters are all recognized experts in their fields. Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Kathleen Walsh, liaison to the Office of Women’s Services, noted that the keynote speaker, Ellen Eichelbaum, will speak on “Putting Ourselves First,” an important concept in the modern woman’s experience of multi-tasking.
In addition, Councilwoman Walsh said, “Our lunchtime presentation is a moving salute to the suffragist movement entitled ‘I Want My Vote.’ Abbe Gail Gross, who is an educator and performer, will take us through the dramatic fight for women’s right to vote. The voting process is empowering to all of us, and this is a presentation well worth seeing.”
The fee for the workshop is $20, and includes a continental breakfast and lunch. Advanced registration is required. Brookhaven Town Hall is located at One Independence Hill in Farmingville.
