FEBRUARY 23, 2006 - As part of continuing efforts to beautify the Town, and encourage residents to take pride in the appearance of their neighborhoods, the Brookhaven Town Board passed a resolution offering Brookhaven Town residents the opportunity to bring one free load weighing up to 500 lbs. of non-commercial waste to the Landfill on Saturday mornings through February 2007. The Landfill, located on Horseblock Rd. in Yaphank, is open to residents on Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until noon.

Residential waste must be delivered in a non-commercial vehicle. Residential I.D. is required. Disposal fees for residential waste above 500 lbs. will be charged at the regular rate of $85/ton (approximately 4 cents per pound).

The program does not apply to commercial customers. Regular disposal fees will continue to be collected for commercial loads.

The Town Board would also like to remind residents that electronic recyclables and household hazardous chemicals can also be dropped off on Saturday mornings at no charge.
