Town Offers Hurricane Guide to Residents

JULY 19, 2007, FARMINGVILLE, NY—Brookhaven Town Supervisor Brian X. Foley has made available to town residents a Hurricane Guide that outlines what citizens can do to properly prepare to safely ride out a hurricane.

The Brookhaven Town Official Hurricane Survival Guide explains what to do before, during and after a storm to protect your family and home. The guide contains information of preparations and procedures for virtually every hurricane scenario. The guide explains how to create a safe area in your home and prepare a “Go Bag,” preparing a family disaster supplies kit, how to prepare your home and yard, how to care for your pets and boats, and much, much more.

There also are list of important phone numbers, hurricane surge maps and other critical information.

“Residents have to take responsibility to prepare for a hurricane and protect their family and their home,” said Supervisor Foley. “Our Hurricane Guide gives residents the tools they need to get ready for a hurricane, and I urge everyone to get a copy.”

The hurricane guide is available on the town web site, www.Brookhaven.org, or can be obtained by calling 631-451-TOWN.
