FEBRUARY 16, 2006, FARMINGVILLE, NY - Supervisor Brian X. Foley with the assistance of the Town Council members will continue to advance his agenda of reform at tonight’s meeting of the Brookhaven Town Board. Several items on the Resolution Agenda are part of the Supervisor’s plan to move forward on:
- Protecting the environment,
- Improving department efficiency and accountability,
- Building a team of the best and the brightest,
- Increasing community involvement,
- Saving taxpayer dollars.
Resolution # 6 - Authorizing an Agreement Between the Town of Brookhaven and Cameron Engineering & Associates, LLP (CEA) for the Development of the West Meadow Beach Restoration Plan – This is the next step for the future of West Meadow Beach. CEA is being hired to prepare the comprehensive master plan to provide vision for the facility. It will involve opportunity for public participation and comments.
Resolution #8 - Authorizing Attendance by Brian X. Foley, Supervisor, Jack Schnirman, Deputy Supervisor, Carol Bissonette, Town Councilmember and Donna Gergela, Director of Information Technology, at Fact Finding Meetings Entitled ‘Citistat’ in Baltimore, Maryland on February 3, 2006 – This is the first step in achieving Brian’s vision to bring improved performance and accountability to Brookhaven Town Departments with this data driven management ACCOUNTABILITY system which will be know here in Brookhaven as Service Stat.
Resolution #9 - Adoption of “Clean Energy Action Plan” for Calendar Year 2006 – to lead by example and act as a role model to the general public on energy issues by demonstrating that technologies are now available to achieve the critical goals of reducing air pollution, improving energy efficiency, fighting global climate change, increasing energy independence and reducing long term operating costs associated with energy use. Will form an internal energy task force to set bench marks and goals to transition the Town to cleaner and more efficient energy technologies in its buildings and vehicle fleet.
Resolution # 30 - Authorizing an Agreement Between the Town of Brookhaven and ADL III Architecture, P.C. in Undertaking a Visioning Process for the Future Development of the Gordon Heights Community – The Town will be inviting the community of Gordon Heights to participate in planning the future of their community and the building of a neighborhood center within Gordon Heights.
Resolution # 31 – Authorization to Purchase Additional Software and Equipment to Upgrade the Q-Matic System – In order to better serve the public, the Building Department is planning to upgrade its customer management software. This upgrade to Q-Welcome should reduce public wait times and improving employee efficiency.
Resolution #32 – Appointment of Kathleen Meade as Deputy Commissioner of Building and Fire Prevention – Ms. Meade has been tapped by Supervisor Foley to join the team in the Department of Building and Fire Prevention in order to further tackle the challenge of improving the department’s operations. Ms. Meade’s more than thirty years of private management experience will be invaluable to the Building Department. Supervisor Foley and Commissioner Sauerwein are looking forward to her assistance in improving the efficiency of the department, particularly the permit application and management processes.
Resolution #37 - Authorizing the Waiver of Disposal Fees Under 500 lbs. for Town Residents on Saturdays and Applying Regular Fees for Over 500 lbs. from February 27, 2006 through February 27, 2007 – This is a modification to previous free dumping policy on Sat at the land fill to limit the amount dumped for free to 500 pounds.
Resolution # 50 - Setting Public Hearing to Consider Designating the Petty House in Mastic as an Historic Landmark – This is a huge step forward in recognizing the last historic structure remaining on the Montauk Highway corridor. This will ensure that the historic Petty House will remain as a vital link to the community and its historic past.
Resolution # 51 – Setting Public Hearing to consider a moratorium on new building along County Road 51 in Eastport, East Moriches and Manorville. The intent of the moratorium is to develop a cumulative impact and corridor study that will assist in defining the future of this rural and tranquil country road.
Late Starter: Appointment of Kevin Cronin as Commissioner of Public Safety – Mr. Cronin’s extensive Police Department and emergency management experience will help to round out the team of professional managers within the department.
