SEPTEMBER 10, 2007, SHIRLEY, NEW YORK – Brookhaven Town Supervisor Brian X. Foley, Councilwoman Connie Kepert, the Small Business Advisory Council and the town’s Division of Economic Development will host the third annual “Helping Your Business Thrive“ conference on September 20 at Town Hall, Independence Hill, Farmingville. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. and runs through 9 p.m., offering speakers, workshops and exhibits featuring a broad variety of government and private professionals to help the small business owner navigate through various agencies, laws and business strategies.
“Helping Brookhaven business thrive and grow is a central concern of my administration,” said Supervisor Foley. “This conference is a great tool for businessmen and women and I urge everyone to take advantage of this program. Small business owners won’t find a more comprehensive selection of professionals anywhere to answer questions and provide opportunities for their continued success.”
Among the professionals on hand to provide help for small business owners will be representatives from the Small Business Administration, Long Island Development Corporation, and Small Business Development Center. Members of the town’s Economic Development Division will also speak, and organizers have assembled professionals in banking, non-traditional funding, accounting, bookkeeping, law, human resources, business coaching, web development and more to share their knowledge.

Brookhaven’s Small Business Advisory Council assists the small business community with its desire to access and benefit from town government. Under the direction of Supervisor Foley, and the Economic Development Division, the council’s goal is to provide knowledge-based seminars and programs to educate the small business community on the hundreds of resources available to them through local, state and federal government, as well as private entities.
The Small Business Advisory Council, which is comprised of dedicated volunteers, works in conjunction with the Economic Development Division of the Town of Brookhaven. The mission of the Small Business Advisory Council is to serve as both liaison to town government and as a resource to support the growth and development of the small business community and add to the quality of life in the Town of Brookhaven.
