SEPTEMBER 10, 2007, SHIRLEY, NEW YORK –Brookhaven Town Supervisor Brian X. Foley and Councilwoman Carol Bissonette have announced that the Brookhaven Animal Shelter & Adoption Center will host its fourth annual Barktoberfest dog adoption event at the shelter, 300 Horseblock Road, Brookhaven, on October 6.
“This is a great opportunity for Brookhaven residents to adopt a wonderful pet and help the shelter in its efforts to find homes for these animals,” said Supervisor Foley.
“Every fall our Brookhaven Town Animal Adoption Center hosts a fun-filled day known as Barktoberfest,” said Councilwoman Carol Bissonette. “It is an opportunity to take advantage of protecting the health of your pets by participating in our low cost rabies clinic. What is even more enjoyable are the contests for our pets! Whether you are a current pet owner, want to add to your family with an additional pet or just want an event for your children to enjoy, Barketoberfest is the place to be!"
Each year, this event is held to encourage local residents to "Think Adoption First!" A low cost vaccination clinic will be available from 1 to 3 p.m. for companion animals within Brookhaven Town. The event will also include activities for the kids, including face painting, a petting zoo, and demonstrations by the Suffolk County Police Department K-9 Unit.
Between 2 and 3 p.m., there will be dog contests such as World Class Tail Wagging, Musical Sit and more.
An adoption bonus is given for each dog and cat adopted on this day. For further information, contact the Brookhaven Animal Shelter & Adoption Center at 631-286-4940 or e-mail animalshelter@brookhaven.org. Visit the shelter website at www.brookhaven.org/animalshelter.
