Supervisor Foley is hopeful that the visit is the first step toward opening up trade opportunities for both Brookhaven businesses and Canadian companies.
“This is indeed both a unique and historic occasion for us here in Town government,” said Supervisor Foley. “It is unique in that we have the opportunity to promote trade links with our friends and neighbors to the north as we look to bringing continued financial vitality to our Township.
“Canada and the United States enjoy one of the largest and most dynamic trade relationships in today’s ever increasing global economy, and we intend to make Brookhaven Town an important part of that relationship. Today, we showcased companies and institutions that which are the backbone of the economic engine that is Brookhaven.
Supervisor Foley pointed out that Brookhaven Town is home to world-class research facilities such as Brookhaven National Laboratories and first class educational institutions such as Stony Brook University. He said that Brookhaven companies like the Symbol Technologies division of Motorola are already leading the way in the global economy.
In aerospace and defense, he said, the Town has small contractors such as NAASCO and multi-nationals companies such as the Unison Division of GE.
