OCTOBER 30, 2007, FARMINGVILLE, NEW YORK – An e-mail spawned rumor that the Brookhaven Town Board will consider a “no firearms discharge” law at its December 4 is entirely false.

   In fact, the only proposed law in the works concerning hunting or firearms is of direct benefit to hunters; it would ensure that waterfowl hunters could access legal hunting areas through town parklands.

   “This is another example of how false information can get a life of its own through the Internet,” said Town of Brookhaven Public Information Officer Tom Burke, an NRA member himself. “No such law is under consideration in the Town of Brookhaven.”
