Residents Invited Into Planning Process

NOVEMBER 5, 2007, FARMINGVILLE, NEW YORK – Brookhaven Town Supervisor Brian X. Foley and Councilwoman Connie Kepert have invited Town residents to join in the preparation of the Town of Brookhaven’s 2030 Comprehensive Plan. They have invited residents to attend an “Issues and Opportunities Workshop” in the Town Hall auditorium on Tuesday, November 13 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. to start that process.

“This new Comprehensive Plan will map the future of the Town of Brookhaven until the year 2030,” said Supervisor Foley. “We are going about planning in a new way in the Town of Brookhaven. We believe that residents are at the heart of all community-based planning decisions and that is why we are inviting every member of the community to become a part of the process of charting the future of our great town.

“Through citizen involvement and community-based planning, we will identify the issues that residents of Brookhaven are facing today in order to plan for tomorrow.”

“We have already enlisted representatives from all portions of the community,” said Councilwoman Kepert, the chairperson of the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee. “We want to make sure that everyone knows they are invited to be a part of this process, and that is why we have scheduled this meeting.”

Organizations that already are taking part include representatives from civic groups, churches, emergency services, schools, chambers of commerce, special districts, professional groups including the Long Island Builders Institute, real estate interests, environmental organizations including the Nature Conservancy and Open Space Council, and officials from every village in the Town.

The new Comprehensive Plan will be created over the course of the next year, with a draft plan expected to be complete by September of 2008.
