DECEMBER 21, 2007, SHIRLEY, NEW YORK – Brookhaven Town Supervisor Brian X. Foley said today that when the opening bell rings on the New York Stock Exchange at 9:30 AM (EST) on Christmas Eve, the “Bulls and Bears” will make way for orphaned puppies from the Brookhaven Animal Shelter & Adoption Center.
The bell will be rung by Supervisor Foley and Mike Arms, President of Helen Woodward Animal Center in San Diego. Mr. Arms is the creator of Iams Home 4 the Holidays. Brookhaven Animal Shelter & Adoption Center has supported and participated in Iams Home 4 the Holidays and is proud to be selected as the representative of more than 2,750 groups in 14 countries that are working “hand-in-paw” to increase pet adoptions.
“In December, the NYSE focuses on holiday sales and winter oil prices,” said Arms. “This Christmas Eve Wall Street will focus on life… the real reason for the season.”
Arms added that while winter heating oil and gas prices are a major factor on the “Big Board” during the winter, nothing can top the natural warmth that comes from the love of a new dog or cat, puppy or kitten in the family.
“Our animal shelter does a great job in finding homes for pets all year round but the Home 4 the Holiday program gives an added boost at this special time of year,” said Supervisor Foley. “Please stop by the shelter and consider bringing a pet home for the holidays.”
