Farmingville, NY—March 13, 2006– The Town of Brookhaven and eight Suffolk County legislators are pitching in to help disadvantaged women make a successful entry into the workforce.
Brookhaven Town Supervisor Brian X. Foley has announced that Brookhaven Town Hall in Farmingville will be a drop-off spot on March 22 for Dress for Success®, a program under which women nationwide donate one new or nearly new interview suit during the week of March 19-25 to help a disadvantaged woman enter the workforce.
“This is a great way to give women the small break they may need to start a productive and satisfying life as successful working people,” said Supervisor Foley. “All that disadvantaged women need to succeed is a chance. Stop by Town Hall March 22, drop off an interview suit, and give them that chance.”
"We are glad to participate in this effort to help women start successful careers," said Suffolk County Presiding Officer William Lindsay. "It's the least we can do."
This is the ninth year this campaign, S.O.S- Send One Suit -- Week®, is in effect. The focus on “sending one suit” symbolizes the organization’s need to collect only garments appropriate for job interviews, a stepping-stone towards self-sufficiency for women. Once a woman is employed, she receives ongoing career development from The Professional Women’s Group, a nationally recognized Dress for Success employment retention program.
The county legislators taking part in the program are:
--Vivian Viloria-Fisher, 46 Route 25A, Suite 5, East Setauket, NY 11733.
--Jack Eddington, 90 West Main Street, Suite 2N, Patchogue, NY 11772.
