FEBRUARY 25, 2008, FARMINGVILLE, NY – Brookhaven Town Supervisor Brian X. Foley and Councilman Keith Romaine today hosted principals of the Moriches Industrial Park development in addition to State, Suffolk County, and Town officials to break ground for a new state-of-the-art, “green” building complex in Moriches, on Brookhaven’s south shore. Sited on 10 acres the 78,000 square foot project includes seven buildings ranging in size from 9,200 to 11,500 square feet.
“The Town’s partnership with Vincent Trapani and his associates at Moriches Industrial Park puts Brookhaven on the map for yet another first,” said Foley.
“Because not only is this project the first “Green” industrial park in New York State, but it is also a source of scores of new construction jobs, plus additional opportunities for employment when the park is completed -- we see this as a triple-plus project: jobs, more jobs, and a healthier environment,” the Supervisor said.
Brookhaven Councilman Keith Romaine (the new project is located in his, the 6th Council District) spoke to the headline issue of smart/green building, “This development will incorporate the latest green building technologies and materials to reduce energy and water consumption, and reduce the overall carbon footprint in the operation of the buildings.”
Mr. Romaine continued, “The builders expect a 60% savings in energy costs and that is great for Brookhaven and great for Long Island. It proves there is a strong commitment on Long Island to environmental stewardship and social responsibility to benefit generations to come.”
According to Mr. Tripani, “Over the lifetime of this development our operating costs will be lower and the value of the property will increase by having gone green.” Mr. Tripani explained walls, for example, will be built using a concrete structural insulated panel with an R-value of 36 – triple the energy efficiency of typical R-12, industrial insulation.
He also cited low-flow water fixtures and geothermal technology that will save on heating and cooling costs and energy expenditures.
Located at 19 Frowein Road in Moriches, the buildings will be LEED-certified, guaranteeing they will lower operating costs, conserve energy and water, reduce waste and harmful greenhouse gas emissions, and be healthier and safer for tenants.
“This is the second ground breaking the Town has hosted in the last four days,” said Mr. Foley. “Our Economic Development Team, led by Ray Donnelly, has been doing an outstanding job. Last week we helped keep a company from leaving Long Island and brought 50 new jobs to Brookhaven Town. This week, we add the state’s first green industrial park to the Town’s record of accomplishment and bring even more new jobs to Brookhaven. I can’t wait to see what next week brings,” he concluded.
