Brookhaven Town Offers Free Rabies Clinic

May 21, 2008 FARMINGVILLE, NY– Brookhaven Animal Shelter & Adoption Center will host its Sixth Annual Free Rabies Vaccination Clinic at the Bald Hill Amphitheater which is located on South Bicycle Path Drive in Farmingville. The event will take place on Saturday, June 21st from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The shelter is offering low cost booster vaccinations for pets provided by Dr. Edward Hamilton and Affordable Veterinary Care. One thousand Rabies vaccine’s for the event will be donated by Suffolk County Department of Health.

All Suffolk County dogs and cats are eligible to receive a free rabies vaccination, however it will be on a first come first serve basis. There will also be low cost booster shots including: 3 in 1 - Cat Booster $10.00, 4 in 1 - Dog Booster $10.00, Lyme Disease $15.00 and Leptospirosis $15.00.

All dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in a pet carrier.

“This is one of the best steps you can take to protect your pet and I hope Brookhaven residents take advantage of this important free clinic,” said Brookhaven Supervisor Brian Foley.

"This free clinic is a convenient, affordable way for pet owners in our town to protect their pets, families and neighbors, and fulfill an important requirement for obtaining a Brookhaven dog license," said Councilwoman Jane Bonner, the Town Board's liaison to the Animal Shelter. "Licenses are needed to enjoy our new dog park, and these free shots will enable more of our animal lovers to take advantage of this wonderful new facility. "

New York State and Suffolk County Law requires that all dogs and cats be vaccinated against rabies. Vaccinating your pet not only provides protection for the animal, but vaccinated pets also act as a barrier to keep the rabies virus from spreading between wild animals and people.
