Kepert Breaks Ground with Developers for Affordable Housing in Coram

May 27, 2008, Coram, NY – Fourth District Councilwoman Connie Kepert along with Matt Whalen of Avalon Bay Communities, Coram community members and others celebrated the ground breaking at Avalon at Charles Pond in Coram. “This project proves that we can preserve open-space, maintain our suburban feel and surroundings and provide affordable housing for young professionals. These concepts do not have to conflict, rather they can compliment each other,” stated Councilwoman Kepert. “I find this project especially exciting since it will meet the housing needs of our young workforce,” stated Matt Whalen of Avalon Bay Communities.

The apartment complex will consist of 200 rental units; 100 one bedroom and 100 two bedroom at a rate of $1200 and $1400 respectively. Avalon Bay Communities has donated 4 acres of open-space to the Town Of Brookhaven and will be investing in needed traffic improvements at the intersection of Route 112 and Middle Country Road.
