FARMINGVILLE, NY – The Brookhaven Youth Bureau announces the Safe Summer Youth Programs 2009, which will run during summer evenings in July and August, offering a variety of activities ranging from basketball and volleyball to live music. The program sites are at located at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai; Martha Avenue Park in Bellport and Smith Point County Park in Shirley.
Each program offers safe, supervised places for Brookhaven youth between the ages of 13-20 to congregate and socialize on summer evenings. The Suffolk County Police Department provides a police officer to ensure safety, and the Town Youth Bureau supplies a seasonal youth recreation staff person. These sites are also supported by area civics, not-for-profits, and other community organizations.
The Cedar Beach Program in Mount Sinai runs from July 8 through August 21 and will be held Wednesday through Friday nights from 9 p.m. to midnight for youth ages 13-20; featuring beach volleyball, basketball, and live rock music nightly. The Martha Avenue Park Program in Bellport runs from July 7 through August 21 and will be held Tuesday through Friday nights from 7 p.m. to midnight; featuring a D.J., outdoor sports, snacks and special events. Ages 10-12 are welcome from 7 p.m. – 8:45 p.m., ages 13-20 until 11:30 p.m., and Weekly Family Night (for all ages).
The Smith Point County Park Program in Shirley runs from July 8 through August 29 and will be held Wednesdays through Saturdays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. for youth ages 14-18; featuring music, games, sports, and special events.
