Brookhaven, NY – April 28, 2006 – Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Carol A. Bissonette is pleased to announce that the first in a series of project to convert existing streetlights to energy efficient street lighting is now complete. The first phase called for conversion of 97 streetlights in Shirley to more energy efficient lighting. The new lights will save taxpayers approximately $3,850.00 in lighting costs.
The conversion was made possible through the Town of Brookhaven’s Department of Housing, Community Development & Intergovernmental Affairs who secured Federal Funding for the conversion and the Division of Aviation & Transportation’s Street Lighting Department.
This is the first phase of a comprehensive plan that seeks to convert existing lighting to more energy efficient lighting to increase savings to taxpayers.
