Foley Brings Government to the People
JUNE 14, 2006, FARMINGVILLE, NY – Supervisor Brian X. Foley brought his Mobile Town Hall to Rocky Point on June 14 in its inaugural foray as part of the Supervisor’s campaign to bring town government down off Independence Hill and directly to the people of Brookhaven Town.
In the coming months, Supervisor Foley plans to visit various communities all around Brookhaven Town with his Mobile Town Hall. This Wednesday, the Mobile Town Hall was set up in the parking lot of the Rocky Point Waldbaum’s from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
“In my State of the Town address, I made a promise to bring town government down off the hill and directly to the people, and my Mobile Town Hall is a central part of that effort,” said Supervisor Foley. “I promised the people of Brookhaven Town a government that is open, honest and responsive, and bringing town officials into communities all over town is one way of doing that. This will give residents a new chance to voice their concerns directly to town officials without having to make the trip to Town Hall in Farmingville.”
Joining Supervisor Foley at all the Mobile Town Hall visits will be Highway Superintendent John Rouse. Also attending this week’s event in Rocky Point will be Parks Commissioner Brian Pratt and Aviation and Transportation Commissioner Jim LaCarrubba. Different town officials will accompany Supervisor Foley and Superintendent Rouse on Mobile Town Hall visits in the future.
“This offers residents a chance to speak with their local government officials about pressing issues in their communities,” said Supervisor Foley.
“It’s our responsibility as public officials to reach out to the community in order to get input from our citizens and have them participate as much as possible,” said Superintendent Rouse. “In town government, we should all work together. The mobile office is just another example of the many steps we’re taking to accomplish that.”
The Rocky Point excursion is the first of six visits currently planned for the Mobile Town Hall. The Mobile Town Hall schedule is as follows: July 12 in Council District 3, July 15 in Council District 4, July 20 in Council District 5, July 31 in Council District 1. The specific locations will be announced soon. Other August dates will be announced shortly.
