On September 4th, Supervisor Mark Lesko, Councilwoman Jane Bonner joined other elected officials as the Rocky Point Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 6249 unveiled a 9-11 Memorial at Diamond in the Pines Park in Coram. The memorial honors rescue workers and all the graduates and residents from the Towns of Brookhaven and Riverhead that were lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The memorial also honors veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“Those who lost their lives on 9-11 will always be honored thanks to the Rocky Point VFW, the Town’s Parks Department and all those who volunteered their time and talents to create this memorial,” said Supervisor Lesko. “Our residents now have a beautiful place where they can come to reflect on the meaning of 9-11 and remember the victims in their thoughts and prayers.”

Councilwoman Jane Bonner said, “This memorial will serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the victims who lost their lives and the brave first responders who gave their lives trying to help others. I commend Rich Acritelli and Joe Cognitore for their dedication and the hard work they did in order to bring the 9-11 memorial to Diamond in the Pines.”
