Olympics Barbeque

Farmingville, NY – On September 14, Supervisor Mark Lesko, Deputy Supervisor / Councilwoman Kathleen Walsh and Councilwoman Jane Bonner hosted a barbeque in honor of the Special Olympics athletes. The event was held on the grounds of the Brookhaven Amphitheater at Bald Hill in Farmingville where the athletes, their family and friends, enjoyed food, refreshments, music, dancing and games. The keynote speaker was Matthew Schuster, a 28 year old Medford resident who participates in track and field, hockey, softball, basketball, golf and swimming. Mr. Schuster spoke about how important the Special Olympics are to him and encouraged others to support the organization.
Supervisor Lesko and Councilwoman Bonner participated in the 2010 Special Olympics Polar Plunge at Cedar Beach and the Town will be hosting the 2011 Polar Plunge at Cedar Beach on November19, 2011.
Supervisor Lesko said, “The Special Olympics Athletes are an inspiration to us all and I greatly admire each and every one of them. I encourage everyone to register for the 2011 Polar Plunge to support this incredibly worthwhile organization.”
"The courage that these young men and women show while competing in the Special Olympics is an inspiration to me and I thank them for that,” said Deputy Supervisor/Councilwoman Kathleen Walsh. “I commend them and their trainers for their hard work and determination to succeed in sports and life."
Councilwoman Bonner said, “I am happy to support the Special Olympics and I commend the volunteers who help train these wonderful athletes to be the best that they can be. I look forward to joining them at the Polar Plunge on November 19th.”
