Farmingville, NY – At a recent board meeting, Supervisor Mark Lesko and the Town Board were presented with an award certificate and trophy from Island Harvest for participating in the “Make A Splash” food drive. Island Harvest provides critical food support to a network of almost 600 food pantries, soups kitchens and other local programs. The Town’s Holtsville Pool, Centereach Pool and the Brookhaven Aquatic Center served as collection sites for over a 1,000 lbs. of non-perishable food which was donated by Town of Brookhaven pool patrons and Recreation employees.
Supervisor Lesko, who accepted the award for the Town Board, said “I am very proud of our Recreation staff and residents for doing their part to help our neighbors in Brookhaven Town. These tough economic times have affected so many people in our community who will now benefit by the efforts of Island Harvest to provide food and support to those most in need.”
Deputy Supervisor/Councilwoman Kathleen Walsh said, “Island Harvest does a tremendous job of serving our neighbors in need. Collecting food at the town pools is such a small task compared to the great work they do. Hopefully we can do this again and collect even more next year. Thank you to every one of our resident who donated.”
