Farmingville, NY – On October 1, Supervisor Mark Lesko and Deputy Supervisor / Councilwoman Kathleen Walsh provided opening remarks at the Town of Brookhaven’s Division of Women’s Service’s Fifth Annual Conference; “Get…The Competitive Edge,” an all-day series of workshops focusing on issues that are important to women.

“Our Division of Women’s Services plays such a vital role in helping women throughout Brookhaven Town,” said Supervisor Lesko. “I commend the staff and volunteers who organize this great event each year. It is just one shining example of their commitment to improving the quality of life of women throughout the community.”

Deputy Supervisor / Councilwoman Kathleen Walsh, who serves as Town Board liaison to the Division of Women’s Services said, “The Division of Women’s Services really does a great job in assisting women improve their lives. These workshops may enable them in some way to reach a goal of self management and hopefully a brighter future either personally or financially.”

The day began with a continental breakfast and the keynote address which delivered by Linda Costanza, LCSW, CSW-G, a licensed clinical psychotherapist with experience in the fields of mental health, aging and employee assistance programs. Following Ms. Costanza’s remarks, there were a number of workshops that focused on issues that are important to woman including:

  • “Show Me the Money… a Smart Woman’s Guide to Money Matters.”
  • “Spirituality: Becoming Higher Powered.”
  • “Social Networking for Your Competitive Edge.”
  • “Hire Me! Promote Me! I’m the one you should choose!”
  • “Triumph with Five Handy, Healthy Habits.”
  • “Success Comes from Attitude-Organize and Energize Yourself to Win.”
