Farmingville, NY – On Saturday, October 15, Supervisor Mark Lesko and Councilwoman Connie Kepert celebrated the ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Granny Road Park in Gordon Heights. The Supervisor and Councilwoman also participated in the coin toss to open the game between the Gordon Heights Knights and Connetquot Thunderbirds. Also at the event were Congressman Tim Bishop, State Assemblyman Dean Murray and County Legislator Kate Browning.
“Our Parks Department did a great job rebuilding Granny Road Park into a magnificent sports facility for the Gordon Heights community,” said Supervisor Lesko, “I can understand the excitement of the Knights staff and these young athletes as they get ready to play on this beautiful new field. I wish them all good luck in the season ahead.”
“Saturday was a great day for me, as the Councilwoman representing Gordon Heights, and for the entire community of Gordon Heights,” said Councilwoman Kepert. “I was thrilled to be with the community and celebrate the grand opening of the upgraded Granny Road Park. It's truly exciting when government and communities come together and succeed. Together we have transformed this park, which now boasts world-class, multi-purpose athletic fields that children of all ages, from 3 to 93, can enjoy for years to come.”
Wallace Young, board member and spokesperson for the Gordon Heights Knights football program said, “I would like to thank Supervisor Lesko, Councilwoman Kepert, Commissioner of Parks Ed Morris and everyone else who made the renovations of our new, state-of-the-art facility possible. The Gordon Heights community acknowledges their efforts and we look forward to future strides of growth.”
The Town constructed two synthetic, multi-purpose fields, including one full size 100 yard field and one 50 yard practice field. There is also new state-of-the-art lighting, concrete walking paths, new fencing, landscaping and drainage.
