Farmingville, NY – On November 23, 2011, the Town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter asked that while residents are doing their holiday shopping this Black Friday to consider adopting a furry friend. The Animal Shelter’s goal this Black Friday is to get all ten of the black cats at the Animal Shelter adopted.

“Black Cat Friday” will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the adoption price for each Black Cat is just five dollars that day. The five dollars includes a starter kit with food, a litter box and liner, scoop, and bowls, and the cats will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, tested and micro-chipped.

Supervisor Mark Lesko said, “We have so many pets at the Animal Shelter in need of a home this holiday season. Instead of going to the crowded stores on Friday, I encourage residents to come to the Brookhaven Animal Shelter to adopt a new member of their family.”

Councilwoman Jane Bonner, Animal Shelter liaison said, “I urge residents to help a needy pet this Thanksgiving. There are many loving pets at the Animal Shelter – including our ten black cats – and a stop at the Animal Shelter would be a great break from the shopping this weekend!”

The Animal Shelter will be open all weekend – on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Animal Shelter is located at 300 Horseblock Road in Brookhaven, NY 11719.
