Farmingville, NY – At the December 13 Town Board meeting, Supervisor Mark Lesko and Deputy Supervisor/Councilwoman Kathleen Walsh presented the Newfield High School Football Team’s coaching staff with a proclamation in honor of their 2011 Long Island Class II Championship season, the first ever in the school’s history. The Newfield Wolverines, a team that had an 8-3 season, defeated Garden City 14-7 in the Championship Game held on November 25 at Hofstra University’s James M. Shuart Stadium.

“I congratulate Coach Piccinini and his staff for winning their first ever championship,” said Supervisor Lesko. “It’s a long season and just getting to the Championship game is a great accomplishment, but winning it all takes a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication by the coaches and players. They are a great staff and team that deserve to be champions.”

“I am very proud to be able to honor the coaches of my alma mater’s championship football team. These men put in so much time all year round working with our student athletes and to have it result in a championship season is something that the entire community can be proud of,” said Deputy Supervisor/Councilwoman Kathleen Walsh.
