A free presentation to help prevent substance abuse

Farmingville, NY – Supervisor Mark Lesko has announced that the Town of Brookhaven Youth Bureau will host a free presentation on substance abuse on Thursday, February 16 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Brookhaven Town Hall. The presentation, “The Dangers in Your Medicine Cabinet and Beyond,” will provide important information on how to protect children and prevent substance abuse. The event will feature guest speaker Steve Chassman, LCSW, from the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence.

“In so many cases, substance abuse starts right in the home with prescription drugs that are easily accessible to children,” said Supervisor Mark Lesko, “It’s important that we educate adults on what they can do to prevent abuse and I commend our Youth Bureau for being proactive in this effort.”

Deputy Supervisor / Councilwoman Kathleen Walsh, Town Council liaison to the Youth Bureau said, “The outreach programs provided by our Youth Bureau can make such a big difference in the lives of so many young people who, without our support and substance abuse education, might very well go down a dangerous path.”
