Councilman Panico Establishes $250.00 Minimum Fine for Those Who Litter Our Roadways
February 7, 2012

Farmingville, NY – Recently, Brookhaven Town Councilman Dan Panico introduced and passed an amendment to the Brookhaven Town Code that provides for minimum fines for those who throw litter onto our roadways.

“It is time to get tough with those who have a flagrant disregard for their neighbors,” commented Brookhaven Town Councilman Dan Panico. “No one likes to see litter strewn about in our neighborhoods, and especially on the entrance and exit ramps into our communities. As a result of this new law, people who litter will no longer get off with a slap on the wrist or warning. Fines will be levied from a minimum of $250.00 through $2,000.00.”

The Town of Brookhaven has gone to great lengths to keep our communities clean by creating the Annual Keep Brookhaven Beautiful Clean Up, which will once again take place this April, and the establishment of anti-graffiti and anti-litter task forces.

“I am grateful for the work of our waste department employees who are proactive in their stance to safeguard our community from rubbish and littering,” said Councilman Panico.
