Town of Brookhaven enters into Memorandum of Agreement with Tritec for the Ronkonkoma Hub Project
February 7, 2012

Farmingville, NY – At its Town Board meeting on February 7, 2012, the Brookhaven Town Board approved a resolution sponsored by Supervisor Lesko, Deputy Supervisor/Councilwoman Walsh, and Councilman Mazzei to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Tritec Real Estate Company for the Ronkonkoma Hub Transit-Oriented Development. This MOA formalizes the Town’s relationship with Tritec and enables the Town and Tritec to work towards the redevelopment of the blighted area north of the Ronkonkoma LIRR station.

“The Ronkonkoma Hub is the best opportunity on the east coast for a transit-oriented development with its close proximity to both the busiest train station on the LIRR and MacArthur Airport. I look forward to working with Tritec Real Estate Company and furthering the vision of the Town and community for a live-work-play destination that will attract young people and create a vibrant center for Long Island,” said Brookhaven Supervisor Mark Lesko.

"Now that the Town has approved the MOA with Tritec we look forward to working with them to redevelop the Ronkonkoma Hub. This project has great potential to create a center of economic growth in the heart of Long Island," said Deputy Supervisor/ Councilwoman Kathleen Walsh.

"The community has been waiting for redevelopment at the Ronkonkoma Hub for a long time and I am pleased that the Town has made significant progress. Tonight we are one step further to realizing the vision of a new economic center for both Ronkonkoma and Long Island, which will result in the creation of thousands of jobs," said Councilman Tim Mazzei.

“The Civic will continue to work closely with the Town and Tritec to execute the community’s vision for the area,” said Lake Ronkonkoma Civic Organization President George Schramm. “Based on Tritec’s knowledge of transit-oriented development and their preliminary visualizations of what the Ronkonkoma Hub could become, we look forward to getting started.”

“We’re excited about the opportunity to be involved with such a transformative project and look forward to working with the Town of Brookhaven and the community to make it a reality,” said Robert J. Coughlin, Principal and Co-Founder of Tritec Real Estate Company.

The Ronkonkoma Hub Design Committee, which consisted of Town Planning and Economic Development staff and members of the Ronkonkoma community, unanimously recommended Tritec as the Master Developer for the project at the end of 2011. The Design Committee was impressed with Tritec’s successful track record of development, financial strength, and compelling and creative vision for the site.

Tritec presented at the Town Board’s work session on February 2, 2012, highlighting their experience and vision to create a new brand for Long Island at the Ronkonkoma Hub, which will serve as the gateway to Eastern Long Island.

The Ronkonkoma Hub project also received a $4 million grant as part of the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council’s award winning strategic vision and was one of thirteen transformative projects. The grant will be used to start work on a sewage treatment plant that will serve the redevelopment
