Farmingville, NY – On June 14, the Brookhaven Division of Veterans Services hosted their monthly Senior Veterans Chat at the Rose Caracappa Senior Center in Mount Sinai. The group shared stories of their experiences in the military, unique events that occurred, and the places where they served. They also discussed the differences between each branch of service. The event also featured a discussion with Army Air Corp veteran Peter Lalena who made bombing runs in a B-25 during World War II.

Supervisor Lesko said, “These Veterans Chats are just one of so many great programs that our Veterans Services division sponsors. It provides the opportunity for our veterans to get together and share their stories about the day-to-day life of a soldier and unselfish acts of heroism that only another veteran can relate to.”

Deputy Supervisor / Councilwoman Kathleen Walsh, who serves as Town Board liaison to the Veterans Services Division said, “I am very proud to work closely with our Veterans Services staff who do so much for the men and women that have served our country. I thank them for their dedication and the amount of time that they put in so we can offer more programs like the Veterans Chat.”

The Senior Veterans Chat meets every second Thursday of the month at 10:00 a.m. at the Rose Caracappa Senior Center located at 739 Route 25A in Mount Sinai. All veterans are welcome to attend. Please call the Rose Caracappa Senior Center at 631-476-6449 for more information.
