Educational community outreach program sponsored by Stony Brook University Hospital Auxiliary

Farmingville, NY – On June 9th, Councilwoman Jane Bonner was on hand for Sunscreening Information Day at Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai. The event was sponsored by the Stony Brook University Hospital Auxiliary and sought to educate beach-goers about the dangers of skin cancer and how to best protect your skin from the sun. Boy Scout Troop 384 helped with the event by handing out pamphlets and sunscreen provided by the Department of Dermatology at Stony Brook University School of Medicine.

Councilwoman Bonner said, “With the beautiful summer weather on its way, it is important for our residents to be aware of the dangers that can come with sitting out in the sun. I would like to thank Linda Shamash of the Stony Brook University Hospital Auxiliary and the members of Boy Scout Troop 384 for their help in providing the area’s beach-goers with vital information that could end up saving lives. I strongly encourage everyone to make sure that they take the proper steps necessary to protect themselves and their families from the threat of skin cancer.”
