Councilwoman Bonner Joins Residents in Shoreham Beach Clean-Up

OCTOBER 8, 2008 - FARMINGVILLE, NY – Brookhaven Councilwoman Jane Bonner joined with a group of residents to clean up Shoreham Beach on Saturday, October 4. The group gathered about 25 bags of garbage and hauled off two truckloads of debris. The group, consisting of children and adults, spread out to comb the beach, finding many plastic items, straws, and balloons – things that are not biodegradable.

“It was great to see the kids really get into the cleanup,” said Councilwoman Bonner. “I believe these kids will carry experiences like this into their adult life.”

“Everyone that came out enjoyed the beautiful day and at the same time performed a service to the planet.” added Eileen Weilbacher, organizer of the event. Another cleanup is planned for May 2009.
