Brookhaven To Host Town-wide Charrette


FARMINGVILLE, NY - Brookhaven Town officials will host a Town wide "charrette" to gather public input as part of the preparation of the Town of Brookhaven 2030 Comprehensive Land Use Plan, with three workshops to be held October 17-21 at Brookhaven Town Hall in Farmingville.

The charrette, which will be interactive, will consider development alternatives, identify likely areas for growth, determine strategies for controlling the amount and type of anticipated growth and validate the recommendations that will be included in Brookhaven 2030.

The schedule for the charette is as follows:

Friday, October 17: 7:00-9:30pm
This workshop, which will feature a keynote presentation by Randall Arendt, a noted conservation planner, will be a basic review of the vision for Brookhaven’s future, issues and opportunities, and existing conditions, trends, and development patterns.

Saturday, October 18: 10:00-4:00
Workshops to develop conceptual land use scenarios including: Transit Oriented Development, Commercial Corridors, industrial development, highway limited development, lifestyle centers, large recreation centers, PDD's and Downtown Redevelopment. The sessions in the morning will focus on the various development and preservation issues throughout the Town. Concurrent sessions in the afternoon will focus on each Council District.

Tuesday, October 21: 7:00-9:00
At this workshop, Town planners and the project’s consultants will present results from Saturday’s workshop, and outline a roadmap for completion of the comprehensive plan and public participation in the finalization of the Comprhensive Land Use Plan..
