Councilwomen Bonner, Walsh Sponsor Town Wide Food Drive

Brookhaven Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner and Kathleen Walsh have announced a
town-wide food drive to benefit local families and food pantries in Brookhaven Town.

Farmingville, NY – Councilwomen Kathleen Walsh and Jane Bonner announced their coordination of a Town wide food drive to benefit many of our local food pantries. The Drive was kicked off at the last Town Board meeting. Food will be collected at each Town Board meeting and distributed the following day.

“By putting the full manpower and resources of Brookhaven Town behind this effort, we are confident of the food drive’s success,” said Councilwoman Walsh. “Through this effort we intend to do everything we can to insure that food gets to those in need -- no family in Brookhaven Town should ever go to bed hungry.”

Various agencies that are aided through the Youth Bureau's Interface Program will be the recipients of the food collected. These agencies serve low-income people who need food assistance. Included in the distribution will be emergency pantries, church ministries, group homes, soup kitchens -- those who assist children, the elderly, and disabled on fixed incomes, the working poor, people who are unemployed, the homeless, and families in crisis.

“The number of Brookhaven residents experiencing difficulty affording basic food items over the past year has steadily increased. Through this Town-wide food drive we hope to ease the situation by providing much needed help.” said Councilwoman Bonner. “Please keep your less fortunate friends and neighbors in mind this winter, the good hearts and generosity of Brookhaven residents will again rise to the challenge and make this food drive a success now through the holiday season”
