Brookhaven Animal Shelter

Adoptions

How to adopt
Residents of Brookhaven are given first preference, but non-residents may also adopt and dogs or cats available at the Shelter. All dogs adopted (with adoption fee) receive a 4 in 1 vaccine, are spayed/neutered, licensed, and given a rabies inoculation before leaving the Shelter. Adopters must leave a $40 bond for puppies and a $35 bond for kittens not old enough to be spayed/neutered at time of adoption. adoptions_main.jpg
  • Browse the list of Animals Available For Adoption and choose one or two that you are interested in
  • Call the Animal Shelter at (631) 286-4940 to verify that the animal is there or if you have any questions
  • Visit the Animal Shelter to see/adopt the animal
Note: due to the need to find homes for our animals, we cannot hold any animals by phone or email.
Lost Pets
If you have lost your pet browse the list of Lost & Found animals or call the Animal Shelter at (631) 286-4940. You must still come to the Shelter to identify your pet - shelter workers cannot identify your pet, only you can do that. If the animal has been injured, there may be an outstanding bill, which must be paid prior to the animal being redeemed from the Shelter. If your pet is licensed, bring proof of licensing and rabies when you come to redeem it. Proof of current rabies is a valid rabies paper certificate, not the tag.
