40 dogs need to find temporary foster homes before work begins on January 6

Farmingville, NY – Supervisor Ed Romaine and Councilwoman Jane Bonner are asking animal lovers to open their hearts and temporarily adopt a dog while the Town completes renovations to one of the kennels at the Animal Shelter and Adoption Center. The work, which is scheduled to begin on January 6, will take three to four weeks to complete and 40 dogs need to be relocated before work can start. To temporarily adopt a dog, residents must visit the Animal Shelter and fill out a contract that needs to be notarized.

“I’ve always found that animal lovers step up when needed,” said Supervisor Romaine. “This is work that really needs to get done now and with only a few weeks to go before it begins, I am hoping that our residents will heed the call and take a dog home, even if it’s just for a little while.”

Councilwoman Bonner, who serves as the Town Board Liaison to the Animal Shelter said, “There are so many wonderful dogs to choose from at the shelter and all they want is a loving home and family. Temporary adoptions will help while we’re getting the work done, and maybe after having a dog for a few weeks, some people will decide to keep it as part of their family.”

Those who are interested in temporarily adopting a dog should call or visit the Brookhaven Animal Shelter and Adoption Center located at 300 Horseblock Road in Brookhaven. The center is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm, Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sunday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. It is closed on Wednesday.
